Hi everyone, as the title of the thread says I need some help with suggestions for a new hard drive. I currently have a a 34gb Raptor that is getting a bit long in the tooth. My budget for the new drive is $100 shipped. I would preferably want something that is new and not recertified. I will be using this hdd to have the two games i play, OS, and various other programs i use installed on it. Preferably something that has 3.0gbs sata. I saw some good reviews about a WD 750gb AAKS hdd and was wondering if there's anything better out there for the price range? Any and all help is apprecitated, thanks :)

If you are willing to splurge slightly for a really fast (smallish) drive the 30GB vertex SSD is FAST.

Otherwise the WD 640GB AAKS (Blue) is well liked due to it's speed (two platters vs. the 3 platter 750GB drives) and price.

or for $5 more, you can get twice the cache..

That SSD looks real sexy.... the problem is that it's too small :( I need something that's bigger because with this 34gb only has about 6gb of free space with the OS, my 2 games, and the other various programs i have on it. That OCZ Vertex Series 60gb is nice, but it's $245 :( I've even thought about getting 2 74gb raptors from fleabay and raiding them, but i'm weary about doing that.

Well, I can't say that I didn't spring for the Vertex, so you know what I would do... If you save up a month, the price for the 60GB vertex will probably drop $50 (knowing SSD..) If you don't have an immediate need, it may be woth the wait.

Nothing I have ever done to a PC has had a more dramatic effect on perfomance for day to day use.
