Ok, I'm getting the parts list together for rebuilding my WHS system. Since I am going with the Norco 4020 I figured I would investigate getting an actual rack to mount it in.

It can be open or closed, less than 20u, the shorter the better. I'll need room for the Norco (4u), a switch (1u), and a good UPS (3u?) at minimum.

Will something like this work: http://www.servercase.com/miva/miva?/Merchant2/merchant.mv+Screen=PROD&Store_Code=SC&Product_Code=2Post-15U&Category_Code=2-Post-Open-Rack

Or do I need something like this: http://www.servercase.com/miva/miva?/Merchant2/merchant.mv+Screen=PROD&Store_Code=SC&Product_Code=15U-Open-S&Category_Code=OPEN

Anybody know of cheaper solutions that will work?

I always thought these might work pretty well if you don't need a full rack: http://www.dantraknet.com/category/34

Two post racks will not work properly. You need a four post rack, basically any four post 19" rack is going to work perfect for your needs.

Thanks Ockie, that's the info I needed.

Now any more suggestions on inexpensive racks (not cheap, just inexpensive).

Find one used locally. I scouted Craigslist and my local electronics shops toi find mine.

Edit: Might be hard to find a shortie like that though, they're as common. Be weary of audio racks though, they're not deep enough for a ~25" server case. Most audio racks are only ~21" deep.

Craigslist is going to be your only bet. Also check eBay for locals or someone near you with racks.

New they are quite expensive (half racks are 500-1000)

I had a hard time getting rid of my Dell rack I acquired in a lot last summer. I almost had to pay someone to take it, free wasn't getting nearly enough interest.
