I replaced my primary OS hard drive C:, and used Acronis to restore from my backup to the new hard drive.

Old hd partition was 70GB, and new hd capacity is 540GB. When I restored the partition it was only 70GB, and no way to tell Acronis to re-size the partition for the new hd. (at least I couldn't figure that out.)

Anyways, I went into Vista's disk management and was able to "Extend Volume" to re-size the C: drive partition.

Is this OK? It worked beautifully, now I have my 540GB all available to me!!

I didn't even know about this feature in Vista, just wondering if there are any caveots?

Yep, it's one of the "new" additions to Vista/Windows 7 compared to older versions of Windows. As long as it gave you the OK (meaning the extend operation completed successfully), it's fine. You can run a chkdsk /f command if you're paranoid, that'll need a reboot to do the check, but I'm sure it'll come up clean. You can also shrink the system partition now as well as long as certain conditions are met, but that's probably not something you'll need to be concerned with.

Welcome to the new Windows... :D

Thanks Joe, just wanted to make sure it was ok.

That's an awesome feature, I thought I was gonna have to get a partitioning application to do this.

btw, I've had Vista since launch.... :D

Well, if you have any appreciation for Vista at all aside from that "new" thing you just discovered, wait till you see what Windows 7 can do... ;)
