I'm crying here, i just lost my external 750GB hdd to the click of death, it started to have trouble reading files and when i restarted windows it always wanted to check it for inconsistency , so i decided to check it for bad sectors and all that from within windows and during that it started doing the dreaded click of death, it will do nothing but click now, windows wont even detect it :(
i had over 500GB of movies and other stuff on it :(

Yeah, losing 500GB of porn sucks. Is it still under warranty?

freezer trick?
The good thing about movies that you can re-download them.. Well, the bad part if you had documents or pictures on it :/
Before freezing the drive I would at least try something like spinrite. Iv'e never used it myself, but it couldn't hurt to try it before something like freezing the drive.

Freezer, try overnight in a static bag in a zipblock bag. (reduce moisture)
I really hope you had backups! Freezer trick only works like 1/10 times for me where I work.

There's no real foolproof solution if the drive is physically affected in that manner, as mentioned before, the freezer method might work, but there's a huge emphasis on "might". It really is a crapshoot.
I hope you kept backups. :(

buy a replacement, try to get one with the same model and version. Swap out the PCB. If it works, you grab your data, move the PCB back to the working drive and restore.
Oh geeh, I remember the good o' deathstar days

what are the odds of this working? is that the fix most of the time?

btw for some more info i was embarrassed to say, I had dropped this drive about 2 weeks ago, took it home during break and copied over 200GB of data to it, the drive was working fine for like 2 weeks after i dropped it until it started to give me this problem,
could it be a problem with the PCB or the R/W head and arm?

PCB swaps usually are attempted in the case of major logical disk failure, in the sense that the hard drive connector is actually broken, there was a short, it's not being detected anymore, etc. But a PCB swap requires that you get the same exact hard drive and most likely the same exact batch, which means hunting for a drive that was made in approximately the same time as your hard drive was made as well, because not all hard drives are the same even across the same "model", there may have been firmware updates or even a PCB redesign for whatever reason.
I suppose if the data's important enough you might want to give it a shot, but from your initial post and your recent revelation that you had dropped the drive before, it sounds more of a motor/actuator or a degraded mechanical characteristic of your drive. If there was a grinding noise, then there was probably a catastrophic head crash.
