Windows 7 Sleep / Shutdown Problems

Win7 has worked great for about a week, sleeped and shut down perfectly, but now, the system refuses to wake up from sleep, I have to hard reset it, and if I shut down, or even use the power button to manually shut down, the computer turns itself back on within a minute.

Any remedies/ideas on how to fix this?

My mobo is an ASUS P5Q-E, with the newest (1703) bios.

I downloaded AVG and COMODO, but thats it. Uninstalling them didn't fix the problem.

Whenever my machine goes to sleep in either windows 7 or vista it shuts off the network card. When I come out of sleep I have limited or no connectivity until I shut down and reseat the connections then power back up. Kinda wish you could customize sleep so that you could tell it what to shut off and what not to shut off.

Mine is working fine with regard to sleep, but I've only had my install since last thurs.

This seems to be going around. Does your mouse/keyboard gets shut down during sleep? I used to have the problem until I disabled USB selective suspend setting. Now the problem was the slightest movement of my mouse would turn on the computer. So I disabled "allow this device to wake the computer" for it. From that point on, I used my keyboard to wake the computer up, but once in awhile it will fall into the golden slumber and won't wake up with a keyboard stroke.

I think it's best to just leave sleep alone for now.

I had to clear the cmos via jumper, and now sleep and shutdown are again working right as rain - hopefully this doesn't happen again.

Well, back with the same ol' problem. Even with a new install of the Windows 7 x64 RC, newest drivers and bios, attempting to sleep will reset the computer and clear the cmos.

Using the jumper technique doesn't seem to work anymore.

Sounds like an incorrect setting in the bios. Do you have it set to S3?

BTW 1703 isnt the latest bios for a P5Q-E -- I have that same board in my system at home and run like 2101 for the bios version, might want to double check on that.

EDIT: BTW don't flash while overclocked! I have shot myself in the foot by doing that more than once!

Dont blame this on Windows 7!

First of all, yeah lots of new BIOS versions since you first had this problem back in February. Try them yet?

You may want to try the asus boards for this mobo. They have one for each.

I've had 2101 for a while, and my rig isn't overclocked at the moment.

The bios sleep mode is set to AUTO.

If I pick S1, the sleep works, but I don't like that mode, all the fans stay on.

If I pick S3, instant reboot+cmos reset.

It's not a software issue, it's something with the setup be it actual hardware or bios settings or something. Try reseating your cards and stuff, try a diff psu, try diff ram or video card. :/

Hi there, I am also experiencing this issue with my win7 install.

When I first setup win7 about 2 weeks ago, the shutdown button in the start menu worked fine, but now when I try to shutdown using the icon my PC powers down, but after a few seconds it starts up again all by itself.

I have no idea what is causing this, but I would like to find out as it is driving me nuts.

Also regarding sleep function, I don't use it personally, but when I first installed Win7, I forgot to disable sleep, and when I tried to wakeup my system after it went to sleep, it wouldn't wake up no matter what I did.

If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated.
