Just downloaded the Beta to see what all the hype was about, and was *slightly* disappointed by the screenshots.

Wow... is all I can say.

I have been using it maybe for an hour now in a virtual machine (only one of my cores, crappy emulated video, and 512MB) but still... I'm just speechless.

I'm thinking so many things right now, trying to put words together for you to read.

This being released June or December? Multiple editions? Prices? Either way, I hope they just sell one version (based on the beta)... there is *no* need to make 5 different versions. Either way again, I will be buying the 64bit version and sticking it on my next build (if not my current machine sometime).

Vista got a bunch nicer after SP1 and a good couple hours of changing settings but W7 is this plus a whole new experience...

!!! What should I do? I'm so excited/happy!

Ack!

I'm really a fan of the intuitave search system now. I wanted to partition a disk so I went to control panel and typed in disk and one of the search results was disk management.

I wanted to find photos that I took with a certain camera so I opened up my pictures folder and typed in SD1000 and iphone and sure enough the resulting pictures came out for each result. Way cool.

No eta on release, MS is keeping silent on that front. I expect we'll see an RC sooner or later. What should you do? I don't know - maybe install it and dual boot with Vista, if you like.

I know, it just shows to people who haven't tried it yet and could make them want to give it a whirl themselves. I just shrugged it off as another version of vista off with a KDE-ish taskbar... I am mistaken.

Great to see all the excitement over Windows 7! As a big Windows fan its nice to see people excited over a Windows release and not bitching over every lilttel thing! As far as a release date its looking to be sooner rather later. Paul Thurrott was saying in a column of his that the RC should be out by April. That would probably gaurentee a release for in time to back to school, say early August.
