I just had a powersupply take out the motherboard and a few other components on my WHS server. I've tried Google for my question, but it seems to be too broad and I haven't found an answer yet. Anyways, all of my hard drives (12 of them) somehow managed to survive, can I put together a new system, reinstall WHS on a new system drive, and will it recognize all of my old hard drives in the pool if I plug them in? I always assumed that I would have to reformat each hard drive and add them to the pool and move all the data back onto them. Any help would be appreciated!

If the origianl OS is still intact, what is stopping you from just replacing the blown hardware and just booting as normal?

OTOH, if there is a problem, put in the WHS install disk and you can run a recovery install that will reinstall the OS leaving all the data/shares intact.

I've been thinking about upgrading the OS drive to a faster 500gb disk (currently an old 160gb) as I'm constantly moving 50+gigs of data at a time to/from the server. So this is a perfect excuse to replace the harddrive and upgrade some of the hardware that was in it.

Yes you can

What you will need to do is get your new box setup and you will need to do a reinstall. There is an option for New Installation and Reinstall. Choose reinstall and it will recognize your pool.
