So i have a dilemma. My girlfriend and I watch movies via s-video (out of my 4850) and 3.5mm to rca for the sound We watch the movies on a POS sanyo crt telly. sound is output through my audigy 2 zs soundcard.

i want to know if its possible to be able to somehow set my computer up to output 2 different sound sources at the same time? ie im playing a game on the comp with one sound source and she is watching something via the computer with the other sound source?

currently, i have to unplug the 3.5mm to rca and plug my headphones in everytime i want to game on the comp, and tbh its a giant pain in the ass. Is it possible to do both at once?

I know this doesn't answer your question but dont you have any older computers or maybe an Xbox 1 laying around? Since your Sanyo CRT is only 480i (S-Video max) a cheap P3 or Xbox with XBMC would work perfectly for you, because you could leave that hooked up to the TV and your main rig would be the file server that would feed the cheap comp the movie/tv files.

no, i dont have anything like that.

i can pick a cheap xbox 1 used up for $66 from eb games here in new zealand. i might just go for that.

is there any other way to do this besides another physical computer / xbox?

If there's a 'headphone' port on the sound card sometimes that will mute the 'speaker' port. You could try that, maybe, then at least you don't have to unplug the speakers. For 2 sources and outputs at the same time... I doubt it. If you have 2 sound cards you can sometimes force an application to use one exclusively (I've done this for music over speakers with ventrilo over headphones) but that only sometimes works. Worth looking into though. There may also be a way to force output from programs to go over a specific card in windows, not sure about that though.
