I recently did a clean install with this new drive I got from the egg. I'm running Vista 64 and for now I can't tell any strange problems in my system.

BUT, today I was trying to run Hdtune and this is what I got:

The strange thing is that if I run the Error Scan surface test I get this:

I tried running WD Diagnostic app and I get this:

Anybody had a similar problem? My system is running normal from what I can tell...I already tried moving my hard drives to differents SATA ports but with the same results. Also tried using another (new) sata cable. I have another WD 750gb hard drive and when I run the same tests all are good to go.

If the "quick test" fails every time with the same error code, then RMA the drive.

If you go through the egg, you will get a new drive in a week or 2.

If you go through WD, you may get a refurbished drive much quicker.

Your choice.

/edit/ The reason your drive fails the test, but appears to run ok is that you are not currently using the part of the drive that is failing for data storage.

Thanks Don.

Later on I selected the "normal test" and then it showed many bad clusters. Lucky me I get a lemon drive. At least I made 3 different images of my install with acronis on a separate drive. One just after Vista 64+drivers, one after installing my programs of choice and the last one I did today. All went thru with no problems. At least one of those should work when I get my new drive back.

I personally like to run the Dos version of the diagnostics. I don't like windows in there messing with things if you are trying to isolate a problem on the drive.
