Hi.

I'm a lifelong WD user. Yesterday I had to swap out a corrupt WD for a new
250G Seagate SATA. Lo and behold, I see their connectors are different.

WD has the fat line of pins but Seagate has the smaller and thinner four pin
connector. Basically, where do I connect that to ?

I've connected the SATA cable (easy enough) but something is obviously missing.

Where do i locate the missing cable ? Do I connect it to the mobo or PSU ? If need
be, can it be purchased separately ? Thank you.

Mobo ---> Gigabyte P35
PSU ---> Corsair 620

SATA connectors are standard, so if your old hard drive was also SATA then it should be enough just to move the cables over the new one. Your motherboard has SATA ports and your power supply has SATA power cables. Provided you also have a spare SATA data cable, then you have everything you need already.

Look in the bag you got with the corsair, you should have a cable there with the right connectors.

thanks for the help. but the power connectors between the two drives are different.

WD has - what I term - the older and wider ones, where the Seagate appears a
touch modern (flat, smaller).

I will look in the bag. Hopefully they are there. If not, I'll ask for a 'SATA power cable'.

Check.

Older WD drives had molex connectors on top of the SATA power ones. The flat 15 pin connection is actualy what SATA is supposed to use. Your power supply has all the necessary cables for it (if you didn't lose them). If you can't find the cables, you can always get adapters.

the WD has the ld 4 pin one yes, some of the first SATA drives did this as the power connectors werent too common

if not you can buy a 4pin to SATA power adapter, but your Corsair PSU def came with the cables, i own one myself.
