I was really wanting to build a esata box for backup and start out with 2 1tb drives mirrored but the more i look into it the price is crazy. Am i better of buying something like this?

http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-WDH2Q20000N-Studio-Interface/dp/B0016P7H3Q/ref=pd_bbs_6?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1232505490&sr=8-6

The ICY Dock is appealing but when i can buy this for about the same it just seems worthless.

Am i missing something ?

Have you considered that if there is a problem with that (or any) pre-built, you have 2 choices.....

1.) send it back to preserve your warranty and lose all your data.
2.) remove the drives to troubleshoot and void your warranty.

Neither is very appealing with 1 TB of data.

Stay with quality, serviceable, basics even if you have to go smaller. ;)
