View Full Version : Creating Vista Ultimate x64 Install Disk

A few months back I finally deleted my Xp Pro SP 3 partition and have stayed with Vista completely. Lately, my pc has been acting kind of strange (extended boot times, programs and windows taking excessively long to open, other programs failing to load, abnormally high cpu usage, etc...) I want to do a clean install, to clear all of the excess crap from programs and whatever else is on there.

Since I have installed though, I have had several updates, including SP1. I want to do a fresh install, but I want to slip SP1 and the other updates in with it, as well as maybe my drivers for my current hardware.

Can you point me in the right direction on how to do this?

Thanks!

Well I tried vLite out, have no clue on what I am doing, and I am getting very limited slow help over on their forums. I do believe I managed to successfully create a bootable iso w/ vista ultimate x64 & sp1 intergrated, but I don't have a machine I can test it on right now, and can't delete my os partition right now to check it out.

There is a guide that kind of outlines how to do it, but it is missing some explanation on various steps, and I can not find any other info on how to do more past the sp1 slipstream.

Once I slipstream sp1, I am wanting to go back to that portion and then add drivers (my keyboard, sound card, video cards etc...) and then add an unaccompanied install of programs that I choose (ie star dock, vlc etc...), but can not find too much info on this.

I will keep working though and post back what I find for ya!

Of course, if Joe Average doesn't come in here and say "Don't use vLite to strip anything out" I'd be a trout, but he probably will...

Still, it's a useful tool for creating new discs that have service packs and updates included.

From what I recall from using nLite (which I love, let's you give peeps their own re-install disk).
first you do the service packs, then the hotfixes, then the drivers, then on thru to other stuff.

I always set up new folders for each of the above as well as one for the new Windows compilation.

I am going to try vLite out myself, hopefull get to it this weekend, and will hit ya back when I do.

Thanks for the update mem

Well I am not too familiar with any software based programs in general. I do not know enough about computers to comfortably remove anything. I do know that I tend to do a fresh install every so often because of issues with some programs and x64 bit os that just make the whole system feel off even after it is gone. There is the rare virus or malware as well, so I think a good practice to keep my system running as fast as it can run is to do a fresh install. I have separate drives that I keep all of my movies games music etc...on, so the basics are on my os drive.

The problem with doing a fresh install is having to reinstall the service pack afterward, as well as all of the drivers for my hard ware, and all of the programs I like to keep on the os portion of the drive. Hence the reason why I am trying to find a user friendly program that lets me create an install disk from my legal copy of vista, and then add to it the sp1, drivers and possibly a wpi to have programs automatically put on there after the install.

I am open to suggestions, and hold my hand walk through to get this done lol.

I have used Vlite on my vista x64 and it works great.. You will need to Strip off some of the stuff to make it fit on 1 dvd .. I just took off the printer drivers (1.6 gigs) and loaded the SP1 in and it works like a charm...
