Need new Hard Drive 2 or 3 platter as main drive? [Archive]

I have an older WD drive 250gb that works great but I only have 8gbs left. I need a new drive and i'm on a budget. I was originally going to get the WD 640 Black Edition for 85$ but noticed that the 1TB version is on sale for 110$ shipped. I'm using a SFF so I only have 2 HD slots. Would this hard drive be a good option for all of my files/movies/games? I would of course have all my essentials backed up either on DVD's or the other 250gb drive but I was wondering if I will see any performance decrease with 3 platters vs 2 or any reliability issues.
