I have a bit of trouble trying to decide which to get.
QNAP is 850USD is feature rich and great in performance. My worries is about how is MYSQL and PHP going to be kept updated ? Also will it be able to use transmission/rtorrent/wtorrent/torrentflux ??

Synology DS-207 is 329 USD is also feature rich but half the cost of the QNAP. Compared to the QNAP model i mentioned, it lacks as many raid features, and also it can store 2 hard drives compared to 5. However the Synology has has Jumbo Frame support which QNAP surprisingly lacks.

The NAS would be used as a personal server storage for my home to be used by my PS3, Popcorn Hour and my family pcs.
I will also want to use it to host a forum and website online. I will of course be taking advantage of the php and mysql which i only found Synology and QNAP are the only companies offering it in their NAS products so far.
I want to be able to use it as a torrent client downloader so i can turn off my Pc. The torrent client i had in mind of using is Rtorrent, Wtorrent, Transmission, Torrentflux etc.
At the moment i leave my rig on 24/7 and it doesn't seem a good idea because my components especially my 8800 graphics card is probably not so suited for ruining long hours. Also not so cost effective considering the electricity being used just to torrent.
I would like to be able to expand my storage which was why i thought the QNAP was a better choice, but i want to know functional wise when it comes to web/forum hosting, torrent third party clients, and other features, whether the QNAP or the Synology was better ?
Raid isn't a big deal for me because i rather just use JBOD to get max storage. I had a bad experience with raid where all my data was lost. Also i am not willing to sacrifice disk space for data integrity either.
I wouldn't mind too much getting the 2 hard drive storage ( seeing as it supports 2 terabytes which is a lot ) so long as it had a feature/software advantage over the QNAP.
For example in the QNAP review it said you cannot just update php/mysql when you fill like it, also there is some third party software installation limitation whatever that means. Does the Synology have these problems as well ?
My main questions i am stuck on are as follows.
Question 1: Which of the 2 is more flexible for installing third party software such as php/mysql and these torrent clients.
Question 2: How big an improvement is the QNAP web server compared to the Synology ?
Question 3: Is a lack of Jumbo Frame support for the QNAP a good enough reason to get the Synology instead ?
