I cant seem to find a drive rack that would fit in two 5.25 slots and hold 8 2.5 drives vertically. Does anybody make something like this?
With 2.5 drives and SSD drives becoming all the rage, I am surprised somebody doesn't make something like this already.....
Hey hardware vendors, here is your chance to make something cool that nobody else has.......

You can get one that holds 4 drives in one 5.25" bay. I have this one (http://www.addonics.com/products/raid_system/ae4rcs25nsa.asp) waiting for a deal on drives.

I was looking for something that's just a "rack" basically. SDD drives wont need any kind of cooling, and the backplane is overkill unless you have a RAID controller with the SAS/multilane connectors....

Unfortunately, there are only a handful of enclosures that fit 2.5 drives into 5.25 drives...
With 500GB 2.5in drives dropping under $100, I had hoped there would be more options for them.
Here are the handful of ones I've found:
2 x 2.5 in a 3.5 external trayless less $

4 x 2.5 in a 5.25 SAS/SATA Startech more $$

4 x 2.5in in a 5.25 SATA Athena Power less $

4 x 2.5in in a 5.25 SAS/SATA Supermicro version more $$$

5 x 2.5in in 2 5.25 SAS/SATA Supermicro lots $$$

If you find someone with just a metal bracket, please post... it would work well in a sff server or shuttle box...

Thanks Bookmage.
I am tempted to just buy the Supermicro, then pull the fan and backplane out of the back. I wish somebody would make something like that....
