I have 4 x 1TB Seagate HDDs. I do mostly video re-encoding for my Ipod Video. I was wondering if there would be any point for setting up a RAID 0 or Raid 5 with 3 of the TB HDDs.
(Note: I have a Velociraptor for my OS drive and I'd like to keep one of the TB HDDs for storage.)
I would appreciate all input.
Thx

is your goal for encoding speed or somewhat safe storage? usually when it comes to video encoding, storage speed is not the bottleneck.

CPU speed will be the bottleneck, not storage. I would suggest using 1 for encoding and maybe raid 1 two of them for safe storage. Losing 1TB worth of data is not fun.

Encoding speed it what i am after. As i stated above, I am keeping one of the TB HDDs for storage. I would like to know how to best utilize my 3 x 1TB HDDs.

a stripe of the 3 will be the fastest, while a raid1 of two of them will be the safest.
i'd guess that reading from a raid0 stripe of 2 x 1TB drives and writing to the 'raptor would be the fastest for encoding.
