I just setup 2 500GB drives in raid 0 using my onboard raid controller ( asus p5q pro ) installed vista 64bit and setup everything the way I wanted. I then added another drive (not in raid) to the system and now it hangs at the loading bar screen. It will boot fine if I disconnect this extra drive. I'm guessing maybe a fixboot? any ideas?

Check the boot order in the BIOS to make sure it is pointing to the array first, instead of this secondary hard drive. It may also be possible that the RAID controller isn't happy running with drives that are not included in the array. I've never been a big fan of desktop RAID arrays, simply because you have more hassle in exchange for very little, if any actually performance increase.

Hmm, again I have to agree with Deacon. If this drive you are adding isn't new and was an OS drive in the past and hasn't been cleaned it is entirely possible it is trying to boot from that drive but since the OS is from another PC it just hangs.

the boot order is set to the raid volume. If I even plug in my sata dvd drive it wont boot.. I can plug in the extra hard drives and dvd drives after im booted into windows and access everything,

Have you tried contacting the motherboard's maker to see if there is an update or a fix for this? Do you have the latest BIOS installed on the board?

Hmm, almost sounds like the S-ATA controller docent want to do raid and single drive at the same time. No idea if this is a common issue or not to be honest. I haven't run raid in some time and when I did I was using a separate controller for each operation.

Edit, scratch that, I didn't read well enough to catch that they both work if connected after boot.
