I just installed vista ultimate on a new system. It was installed into a 30 gig partition on a 750G hd. (the hd has 2 other partitions)
After it was done I installed the files from the gigabyte CD.
Rebooted.
Now windows is connected to the internet and dl updates. 34 dl updates
at installing update 26 blue screen.
Now it won't boot. I assume something messed up the boot sector or something.
if I boot into the install disk, it says the drive has 12GB free.
What happened and how can I repair it?

Just another observation, I know this doesn't answer your question but 30GB partition might be tight for Vista. I have an 80GB dedicated drive and only 20GB free right now. You might consider giving it more room.
To your question, did any of the updates include device drivers?

Yeah, considering your hard drive, I wouldn't use anything less than 100 GB for your system partition. Also, don't install drivers from the motherboards CD. Chances are, they are outdated by the time you buy the motherboard. I always use that CD as a coaster for my beverage of choice while I do the initial install.
Like Deacon I suspect drivers were part of the updates that got downloaded from windows and is the cause of your BSOD. Get the current chip set drivers right from the chip set manufacturer and the network drivers from the manufacturer and burn them to a disk or put them on a USB thumb.
Then do a fresh install giving Vista more room. With a 750GB drive you should be able to spare 100GB for the OS partion. Once installed, install the chip set drivers and network drivers. Then continue downloading your drivers from the hardware manufactures until you have all up to date. Then let windows update avoiding any drivers Microsoft may try and give you. You also may want to limit the number of updates you let the OS download and install at once but that's totally optional and personal preference.

What RAM do you have and what voltage is it set to in ur BIOS? Is the Vista Ultimate DVD you installed the SP1 version?
P.S.- Please list the rest of your hardware so we can help. :)

went and looked and I missed the model on the HD its a 640GB
ultimate with sp1
Intel Core 2 Duo E7200
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-DS3R
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 PC2 8500
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB
PC Power & Cooling S61EPS 610W
the 2 drivers I installed off the cd were the network card did not work so I installed the drivers for it and the intel chipset drivers.
rebooted and vista ran the updater dl everything and then started the install. I did not see what was being installed at the time playing COD4 on my other system LOL
Well since the OS installed with out issue for you, I am still with Deacon and it being a driver that windows tried to update that is causing this BSOD.
If you follow what we have said above I am sure you will not encounter this upon the reinstall.
