Hi, I recently installed Windows Vista, it's been nice so far, but I just noticed that I am not seeing .wmv files. I extract the file to the desktop, then I went to go look to see if it was there, it wasn't, so I tried extracting it to a folder, and I check the folder, it wasn't there. But the size of the folder had increased.
Anyone know how to fix this? I tried searching google, but I haven't seen anything about a problem like this. Thanks for the help.

Just a suggestion, but refresh the desktop. Lately when I DL files to my desktop, I have to (annoyingly) refresh it before anything shows up.

That didn't help :(
From what I see, it's only .wmv files that are 'invisible'.

Hmm, so if you open a command prompt and browse to the folder you put the .wmv in and type dir, do the .wmv files show up? Or of you open WMP, and try opening from within WMP, do the files show up then?
You may want to apply a filter to FileMon (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896642.aspx) to see what's going on when you extract the file(s).

in a command prompt do a "dir /a" in the directory you suspect the WMV file is sitting in. It will show all files, even ones with hidden flag set.

Directories brings up nothing, WMP doesn't show them, but the folder says it has 4 files in it.
Here is a screenshot of it.

Thanks for the help so far, I appreciate it.

Try:
dir /a bob

Says file not found.
I'm really clueless as to why they aren't showing up. :( If you have any other ideas, I'd love to hear them.

A friend of mine was able to help me. Apparently I needed to enable the "show hidden operating files" on the Folder and Search Options. Thanks a lot for the help guys.

WMV files are *not* hidden operating system files. You should check the extensions on those and make sure there isn't something odd going on.

open the Bob folder and press ALT to expose the classic folder menu, then as with XP, go to Tools, then Folder Options, then the View tab, then check 'Show hidden files and folders'
