View Full Version : Can't figure out voice dialing on ATT RAZR V3r

After my old Audiovix SMT5600 died I stuck with an Cingular RAZR V3r.

Just recently I picked up a Motorola bluetooth headset for use when driving. However, the voice setup is just plain horrible on this phone. Every online set of instructions seems to suggest options that aren't available on my phone.

If I edit a contact from the Phonebook, I get the following options (I'll use an example here, too):
Name: AAA/W
No.:1-800-222-4357
Store To: SIM
Speed No.: 1040 #(S)
.....MORE.....

If I select more, I get:
Phone Number
Email Address

Once I select one of those, I finally get the full list of options to edit, and can record a voice name. However, it won't save the voice name until I edit or enter field from the list above (either edit the phone number and save it back, or add an email). Horrible UI

So, the test: I click the headset, say the voice name, and the phonebook appears on the screen with that item highlighted. After 3 seconds, it jumps to a menu that shows:
New Text Msg
New Multimedia Msg
New Email

That's it. I can't figure out how to get it to actually CALL the number. Whatever I say or press, it always jumps to the menu immediately above.

Is there something that I'm missing here?

I believe on the Razr phones theres a sub menu in settings / audio somewhere in which you have to train the phone to your voice, it will have you say a bunch of letters / numbers so it can train itself to the way you say things. I know on older ones it was like that. Not sure if it is the same on the V3.

Once that is done if I am right you should just be able to hit your PTT button and say the voice command.

My KRZR, my dad's and buddies RAZRs (don't know what models, fairly old ones, year+) needed... making pre recorded messages were not needed and there was no training. It worked right out of the box and recognized names and places.

When I set the Voice Name, it lets me train it. I say the phrase, repeat it, and it sets it. When I hit the "PTT" button it asks me to say the name, which I do. It's at this point that it shows the name in the phonebook then skips to that "New..." menu.

Hmm, I think my wife had a similar issue on her's years ago but I cannot remember how I fixed it. I think I went through the user in the contact list and made sure the number and such was in there and the voice was set properly.

Other than that the dialing options under the voice command might be incorrectly set up or not recognizing your command.

She has since given the phone to her father and I am not positive when I will see him next to take a look at it.

Resolved - first I just found out this is a regular V3, not a V3r. And the problem was with the horrible UI.

Previously, the only way I could find to add voice dialing was to also set an email. It took a lot of reading to find that you just had to tell the phone to set the contact to the phone memory instead of the SIM, and then record the voice name. Even though both methods put the contact onto the Phone memory, only the latter allowed for voice dialing to work correctly.
