View Full Version : Any cheap 3U or 4U 16-bay hotswap rackmounts?

I've been looking at the Norco 20-bay 4U rackmount and its price is very appealing, however, it's a bit too much excess for my 31605 that has 16 ports. I was wondering if there was a rackmount that was similar in price. Any that I've seen that seemed simple enough for me end up costing thousands of dollars, which is a bit over what I can afford, unfortunately. ;)

Any pointers in the right direction?

What I'd like in this hypothetical design:
3U or 4U (though 3U is preferable)
A 17th bay for my OS disk
Add-on slimline or normal DVD drives and floppy drive addable.
Hot-swap capability (of course! :D)
Relatively good looking (of course, a matter of debate)
Around $250-350, like the Norco case.

No special PSU is required (which adds a lot to the price, unfortunately), so regular ATX PSU slots would be acceptable.

Nothing comes close to the norco price. For other 16 bay units, you are talking close to 600 dollars... so the norco for 289 is a steal.

You don't need to match your controller, you can put system drives on the extra sleds or just leave them empty.

norco really is best bang for the buck.

No backplane or PSU

Sounds like a waste of money.

I've seen these deals before too, and when I read "no backplane", that was a deal-breaker.

Wish it wasn't the case, though. I'd love to get Supermicro rackmounts with hotswap backplanes, but those things are $$$. :(

Is a backpane for the Supermicro units up for grabs.

The power supplies are a whole nother story. Not to mention, this may or may not come with the PSU distribution module.
