I have an older Toshiba notebook computer and I think the hard drive may be failing (It just got really slow and noisy) Is there any utility out there other then windows checkdisk? that will check all the sectors/clusters (Or whatever they are called) I know most manufactures have their own tool but I checked Toshiba's site and I could not find one. Will another drive manufacturer tool work with my drive?
Drive information MK4025GAS HDD2190
I know it's only a 40GB drive but that all that I could afford at the time when I bought the computer

Checkout the ultimate boot CD. It has most of the vendor specific tools. Some may work, some may not.

If you know who made the hard drive, you can go to their web site and look for a diagnostic utility in their support section. Most have an ISO file that will allow you to boot from a CD. Then run the long or complete test.
It looks like you have a Toshiba drive, and a quick look at their web site shows that they only provide a 1 year warranty on their drives. Pretty pathetic in my opinion.

it appears that IBM's/Hitachi's Drive Fitness Test will work with any drive. So I used that and it said error returned on non Hitachi Hard Drive Disposition Code (Something I can't remember:D )
So the drive is basicly dying  Stupid Toshiba and their 1Yr warranty
Any way I want to get a larger size drive does any one know what the maximum size this Intel chipset could support?
