My favorite 22" LCD for under 500.00 of whatever currency you use would be the 20" NEC MultiSync 20WMGX2. A couple of years ago this monitor was almost $1000 and now you can get them for almost nothing. It has an IPS panel, which is night and day compared to a budget 22" TN panel.

If you want something bigger than 20", you might as well go 24". You can get a 24" TN panel for under 500.00.
