How about a video malfunction thats not covered in the three year warranty. Thats what just happened to me tonight. Mind you i prolly play my game at most an hour every other day, and my console is about 2.5 yrs old.
I called customer service and they told me that im outside of my warranty and i must pay $99 plus shipping to get it repaired. I laughed and told them for an extra $100 dollars, i can get a brand new one at wal-mart, and swap the console (keep the HDD) get my refund.
Im pretty pissed, but just glad that i had it for this long w/o any problems. For those of you who had failures with your console i offer my apologies and sympathy, now that im in the same boat (maybe even worse), i understand your feelings and frustration.
So, ill be out of commission for a couple of weeks, but i will get my upgrade..

Ya it sucks that the extended warranty ONLY applies to RRoD.
I've got sporadic disc read error issues. But luckily they haven't manifested themselves in the last few months. But then again, that might have to do with the fact that I haven't really used the 360 for more than a few hours at a time in the last few months.

Yea.... My friend had a problem with his optical drive about 2 years in, and since it's not RROD he has to pay to fix it. I love my monolith, it's like a rock (weighs about the same too).

Do yourself a favor, until you have the cash to buy a new one, participate in the microsoft Xbox 360 loaner program. All major big-box retailers participate in the program. When your 360 breaks and you have to send it in to microsoft, they are so kind to lend you a brand new system. They wouldn't want you to be without a xbox now afterall, would they?
To sign-up, it's really a simple process. You go to a retailer, buy a brand new 360 system with a credit card, and enjoy for 29 days. Return said system back to retailer for a full refund. Go to another retailer. Once again, enjoy said system for 29 days, and return for a full refund.
Rinse-and-repeat until you run out of retailers nearby..
As far as I'm concerned, after going through 6 xbox 360's myself - and I game about maybe 3 hours a week - it's the least they can do. The 360 is about as reliable as a piece of paper in a thunderstorm...

Wow that's pretty much evil - the devil is going to burn the XBOX logo in your ass when you go to hell :D j/k
Legal to do that, but my gonads aren't big enough to do it.
Plus my HDMI Pro (got it last december) hasn't failed me yet.

Not really any different to having issues with any piece of electronics equipment outside of warranty. The problem is that because the incidence of RRoD is so high people naturally assume that everything else that could possibly go wrong should be covered.
That's never going to happen.
