It's basically Microsoft's attempt at stealing market share away from Adobe Flash, works on the same basic principles of vector animation, etc. NBC chose it for their online broadcasts of Olympic events and videos, but recently announced they were no longer planning to support it because third party people are so firmly behind Flash, have been for years.

Too little, too late from Microsoft, it seems. Always a step behind...

It's mostly just a browser plugin...it's not doing any harm, hardly taking up any space, no reason to uninstall. Having it installed..if you come across a silverlight supporting website..you'll be all set and be able to enjoy it.

Why uninstall? Some webpages needs it, just as some need Flash or Java. It won't hurt to leave it installed just in case. Despite some people criticizing it, Silverlight does have potential to be a good multimedia web applet.

I thought having silverlight was just a way to stop that stupid popup on Microsoft.com! :)

I like programming in Silverlight a lot more than programming in Flash, but until it gets decent marketshare it's essentially a toy.

OK I will keep it. Good point about coming across a page that uses it

Catch 22, of course.

I don't like Silverlight, but at least it works in IE 64bit Mode, unlike Flash, still...

I wish it were more popular. Silverlight is easy to push out to your network. Flash is a royal pain in the arse.

Silverlight 2 Beta 2 renders vector graphics a lot better through test pages. The odd part is that it renders it at a higher & smoother FPS than Flash does.

I hope it gains marketshare since it has a lot of potential.

I think it just might considering Adobe won't make 64-bit Flash :)

I've coded two major things for work in Silverlight in an attempt to get it used throughout. I don't see anything wrong with it. It works for me because I already do Dot Net coding. It is still a beta product and has been for awhile now.

I found SL really easy to learn and implement as others stated. I could not grasp flash, and SL didn't take long to learn the basics.

I do hope it catches on, it makes it SOOO easy to integrate into most coding languages, specially .Net

Sadly, whoever was using it for the olympics dropped it afterwards. Funny thing is, wasn't it just said that MS claimed that javascript is soon to be SL biggest rival and not flash?
