Hey guys, currently..I am only using RocketDock and Deskspace as my only modifications. However, as of now..I am stuck in "Vista Basic" appearance, everything I go to windows color and appearance and change myself to Vista Aero, and apply the changes..it seems to do do something, I close it and re-open it, and it's right back to Vista Basic....anyone have an idea as to what is causing this?
I'm using Home Premium.
Actually, I found the problem...my Vista Aero color scheme, is exactly the same as the Vista Basic one..How does one restore the original color scheme of a theme?

For anyone that can't get it back if Aero Basic is the only choice. Make sure that the following are set in the registry since an app or Windows itself may have changed them.
1. Open the registry editor (regedit)
2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM
3. DWORD entry "Composition" should be a value of 1
4. DWORD entry "CompositionPolicy" should be a value of 2
5. (Optional) DWORD entry "NoMachineCheck" can be created & given a value of 0
This is assuming that the video card drivers are up to date or the ones of your choosing with full LDDM (Vista Device Driver Model) support.
For your own issue.
Go to Control Panel or right click on the desktop. Select Personalization & then select Window Color & Appearance. If you see the options for transparency & color, you're at the right place.

I have one program that is not compatible with Aero, the Vuse Media Player, it switched to Vista Basic when playing a file, but when I close it it switches back to Aero automaticly.
i dont know why its not compatible but it sounds like one of your "Mods" isn't compatible.

Thanks, but that doesn't really answer my question...As of now, the Aero and Basic appearance settings are *identical* Something made Aero have the same scheme of sorts, how do I restore it to what it used to be?

I find that running the Windows Experience Index usually restores Aero when something goes wrong.

Right click on my computer, choose properties.
If your experience index is unrated, or hardware has been changed, run the analyzer.
When it's finished, close the old window to show the newer one, with new scores
Click on Performance at the lower left hand screen (in my computer properties)
Click on Adjust Visual Effects in the upper left.
Ensure either "let windows choose" or "adjust for best appearance" is chosen, and apply
Close then, right click desktop, go to personalize.
Click on Windows Color and Appearance, ensure transparency is checked, and apply.
Click on open classic appearance properties, ensure Aero box is selected, and apply.
