they are jumping into this thing running...

between them and OCZ and a few others, SSDs market place is really heating up.

I'm all for greater competition, only serves to lower the prices. :)

This market is still going to explode.

Tbh, I was really surprised how long it took for SSDs to reach the consumer market. SSDs have been used in military applications for ... well ... decades? At least a decade anyway. Yeah they weren't 3.5" models, and they do have proprietary interfaces, still the technology was there all along.

For the military, the primary advantage of SSDs is ruggedness. If you wanted your data to survive in high-vibration environments, there really wasn't an alternative. For a long time, however, SSDs have been plagued with low speeds, low write-durability, and high cost. For a consumer whose PC sits on a desk all day, SSDs didn't make much sense. So what's surprising?
What's surprising is how far flash has come that we can now surpass HDDs in performance at costs that are acceptable.
Anyway, here's to hoping the intel SSDs will be reasonably inexpensive. But slightly off-topic, has Intel mentioned anything lately about their phase-change ram project? It seems to have fallen off the radar completely.

Saw this at Anandtech too. but no prices. We need the prices!

Sweet merciful god these things should be fast. Hopefully they can optimize cellsizes to avoid the problems seen with the first series of Core drives.

This article (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2328330,00.asp) from PC Magazine says they should be out next month (yay), but the target price is around $8/GB (boo). No idea how good their info is however, I haven't seen pricing info anywhere other than this report (and those linking to it). Hopefully the pricing will be more reasonable, much closer to the OCZ Core.
