I just ordered a few parts to upgrade my rig from the 3800x2 era to something more recent.

I still have 2 36 gig raptors in raid 0 as my C: and i was thinking of upgrading to the new 640GB SE16 drive from WD and forgoing raid on my C: all together.

Has the performance of the 7200 Drives come to the point where i will not see a performance decrease doing this?

Thanks for any and all input.

I think youll be pleasantly surprised by the speed of a single WD6400AAKS drive.

Yes. In fact, the WD6400AAKS outperforms your current Raptors by quiet a large margin.

So a single drive should give comparable performance in terms of game level loads and other gaming/ light video editing tasks.

I ordered the guts of the system yesterday;

E8400
Asus P5K Pro
4 Gigs of G.Skill PC800
HD 4850
