I tried to find the answer in another posting, but I am not quite sure as to the answer.

I have a SATA I card. i want to add a 500MB SATA II drive...

Just wondering if it will work. I really don't need the full 3.0 GB throughput....

Using Gateway 700 running XP pro.

It should be fully backwards compatible.

That being said I would double check the card specs before putting a drive > 750g on it.

Also, the drive may or may not have a jumper to force it to SATA 1 mode. If it does use it.

thank you for the quick answer, SATA II cards aren't that expensive, but it seems a waste just to get rid of the SATA I card i bought.
