i bought one of these drives, and i am stumped.

i cant get it to work.

i am able to get 4 and 8gig jump drives to work fine
it shows up in the device manager as not functioning.
it has no drivers associated with it.
it is connected to a usb port on an asus a7n8x deluxe mobo. (should be enough power, but i cant verify, it does get warm but i cant hear it spinning)

things ive tried:
ive permitted usb devices to have full control
ive searched windows update and the software cd,
the wd site doesnt list drivers anywhere.
ive tried to enable any service that might be relevant. (services.msc)

appearantly the drivers are on the my passort essential. i am stumped and frustrated.

what kind of windows u running?
if it's xp or vista u can try to reinstal the usb driver to see if it helps.
Try different usb port (preferably onto the mb directly)
Try differert power outlet.
Check in the mb bios highspeed usb2.0 is enabled.

Even it doesn't have a driver it should spin up as normal HD does.
If it doesn't spin up normally, most likely it has sth to do with the power.
Maybe you simply have a defective drive or the power adapter.
