It's not memory, it's storage. RAM is memory, hard drives are storage.

Anyway, ditch that Seagate drive and go with this faster drive instead:

I've had good luck with the IBM/Hitachi Deskstars, but others haven't been so lucky. At one point they came to be known as "Deathstars" due to a high failure rate.

The "Deathstars" were only one model, IIRC the 75GB GX DeskStars that were inherently badly manufactured in a certain lot. This reputation goes far, but as far as I know today, Hitachi drives are pretty good performers. Of course, they're a bit behind in platter technology as their 1TBs recently switched from five platters to three platters of greater areal density, but as with any hard disk manufacturer, your mileage may vary determinant on if you get an inherently bad DOA drive or whatever problems with any hard disk brand. Others swear by WD, Seagate, Samsung, Hitachi, etc and others shun them. It's a matter of experience, of course.

I would say get it from ZipZoomFly.. They package their hard drives so they will actually be functional when you get them!

I wouldn't say twice the performance. The Seagate 7200.10 320GB has an average transfer speed of 65MB/s give or take while the Western Digital 640GB has an average transfer speed of 95MB/s give or take.

Platter density, platter design, # of platters, efficiency, etc. All of that allows the WD 640GB drive to be faster than the Seagate 7200.10 320GB drive.
