You can order a 4870x2 for $559 (yesterday anyway) and use the MS 25% cash back deal which would make it $420+ship+0 tax if you don't mind waiting a month or two for the $140 from MS. $469.99 at Bestbuy still translate to $510 after tax for me, so that is still right up around the pure e-shop pricings and it would be tempting if I could drive to my local Bestbuy and get it that day. What I (and others) warned last week, is exactly what is happening now. Not to gloat... I really wish people were getting their cards at this price. At least BestBuy has wisened up and it reads "preorder" now; with the previous scams, the site read in-stock even though they didn't send a single card for two weeks after launch. My guess is earliest they will have stock is late first week or second week of September.

I posted this over at Anand as well. Just a word of warning.

People are so very quick to forget... Here is a list of cards that BestBuy was rumored our "sourced" as saying they would have in stock on launch days. None of these cards were available in any quantity whatsoever on launch, although BB online continued to take orders (and charge credit cards) for them well after there were none left:

8800 GT
3870 X2
4870

The 4870 X2 will play out exactly the same way, garanteed. I got burnt on the 8800 GT, and was stupid enough to fall for the same thing with the 4870.

In addition to debiting your card, you must call and wait for 15 minutes or more and several call directors to cancel your order. Don't do it.
