Bored of Vista look / classic look et cetera, what now?

so i am bored of Vista Aero and windows classic blah blah...


i am living vicariously through firefox skins right now but i want to customize Windows look...

what is the best way to customize windows? do i have to use those programs like WinBlinds or Desktop X or what ever they are?

If so, are they as bad as they used to be? (resources wise or bloatware?)

If not, what is best to give my windows a face lift...
