I just want to know which will be a better in the long run. I probably won't want to buy another operating system until Windows 7 dpending on backwards compatiblity. I just want a solid compatible OS to most software/hardware and video games.

I plan on injecting my PC with a 4Gb Mushkin 1000 Redline Kit and Possibly upgrading to a 8Gb if worth it. I plan on playing the latest games at 1024x1280 resolution since I have a 19 Inch monitor. Also will be going Quad come this August.

I have also heard of tricking your XP 32 to think theirs more then 3GB of ram.

Any help would be great.

You can also make your 32bit Vista think there's more than 3-3.5gb of ram, but it's better to have 64bit straight out.

I use 32bit myself, but it wouldn't be a problem for me to switch to 64bit whenever I need it.

I'd go 64bit.

I have also heard of tricking your XP 32 to think theirs more then 3GB of ram.You can only do that with 32bit Server OS. XP is not a server OS.

Get Vista x64 and be done.

/thread.

Disregard all the unnecessary and unfounded media bashing of Vista. There is simply no choice. Get Vista x64.

I don't think you can really debate this question in the long run. Focus has already shifted to Vista, in terms of application support, driver support, etc.
