On my 680i I had to take one of the sticks out to get it to install.

Gonna be installing on my new system tuesday which is X48 and just wondering if it is the same.

Some people say they never had a problem and it usually seems to be Intel chipset guys so..........like I said.........just wondering.

Or you can order a copy of the alternate media which has SP1 integrated.

I think the problem was only on some Nvidia chipsets. I installed Vista x64 on my X38 motherboard with both DIMMs in place without any issues, and X48 is the same as X38 really. While installing a version with SP1 would be more convenient for other reasons, I doubt there would be any installation issues either way (this seems to have grown from "a problem with some Nvidia motherboards" to "a widespread Vista problem", for some reason).

Thanks for the replies. I kinda thought it was an Nvidia thing but like here, no one seems to know for sure. The ability to install with 4 Gb on the X38 in encouraging. I guess I'll give it a try. What a pita this all is.

I really wish I'd thought (or had suggested to me) about swapping the media earlier. I could have done that while I was waiting for my other stuff. Still gonna do it.
