Hey guys well something odd happened here.

So i'm running ubuntu 8.04, i have vbox 1.6 installed. I had setup an xp pro machine, i was updating and installing stuff. Everything was running fine, one thing I did was install sp3 and a trial version of kaspersky 7.

Also I had to reset my modem due to unrelated issues.

I log in and i can't get a connection. I checked my modems website and it comes up, i do ipconfig and it says im getting an ip. I disable an re-enable the ethernet adapter on vbox but nothing. I checked my tcp/ip config settings and they were all still set to normal. So then i decided to go back to a snapshot i had taken when i had just installed xp, still nothing.

so i changed profile, created a new partition installed, after everything.. on a new install NO FREAKING CONNECTION! yet i can get to my browser's page. Also I installed guest additions about 4 times and i can't can't map my shared drives.

So do i have to install vbox all over again? or am I missing something here?

I tried installing vmware... but in too noob to linux... the installer doesn't do shit, and the fix to get it to run fine... i don't have the slightest idea what the hell this guy means. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=791708
I get up to this point

sudo vi vcpuset.h
then the terminall just has ~ that and whatever i press goes from a to c...

So before you did anything like resetting your modem, were you able to get to the net from the VM?

I don't currently have a Virtualbox installation within (remote) reach, but have you checked that the networking for the actual VM instance is enabled?
