accessing desktop hdd from laptop

Is it possible to access the files on my desktop hdd from my vista laptop. I want to be abe to acess them on our network so I'm not chained to my desk for school work.

You mean like a network share?

Right click on drive, choose sharing and security. I think you can take it from there.
