my Barrracuda V 7200.10 ST3160215A writes so slow compared to the 250GB version.
It takes 3:10 min to writes 1.8 GB file from partition to patition on the same drive. So, the net writing speed is only 500-550MB / min, or only around 8-9 MB / sec.
My 7200.10 250GB version can write the same file in only 1:12 min, more than twice the speed, while my 200GB SATA version in only 61 seconds.

When I test with HDTach, it shows normal reading speed though. The burst speed is 90MB/sec, average is 60MB/sec and CPU usage is only 7%. With Atto Disk benchmark (IoMeter), the speed looks normal too, with avg 50 MB/sec (Avg writing) & 57 MB/sec (avg reading) for 1024kb transfer size.
But the in real world usage, I can feel the very sluggish performance when I have to write or delete files from the disk.

First I thought my XP is messed up, then I tested the drives on my 2nd comp (set as non-bootable data disk), and re-tested the copy performance.......similar result.............2:55 min to write 1.8GB data (compared to 3:20 min as bootable disk). The 25-sec difference is mainly caused of the different IDE controller.

Is this the expected normal speed from ST3160215A ?
To write only 8-9 MB / sec ????

Testing condition:
- Single drive on IDE controller
- Trasfer mode : UDMA5
- Write Cache enabled

Sorry to bump such an old thread but I have the exact same problem

Copying from Samsung HD501IJ 7200rpm to older HD161HJ Samsung, both SATA on IDE controller, getting only around 10 MB/sec.

HD Tune is showing higher numbers.
