View Full Version : Totally Botched .NET Framework

My .NET Framework install is totally botched at this point. I had a bad install at one time, and then attempted a complete uninstall. Everything is "supposedly" uninstalled at this point, but... I can no longer reinstall .NET Framework at all. Not any version. Not a single hotfix. I'm guessing that the registry is borked when it comes to .NET Framework.

While I'm not afraid to dig into the Registry and remove any detritus that is causing the problem if I have clear instructions, I don't have a clue as to what I am looking for. Any help that you all can give me on finally ridding myself of .NET Framework so I can restart from scratch and reinstall it would be greatly appreciated. I'm getting tired of staring at the "Updates are ready for your computer" icon that will never go away...

Thanks in advance for any and all help in this!

What version? There are specific steps for manual uninstallation, and even a separate uninstall tool.

All versions from 2.0 back to 1.0. I've attempted to use the removal tool(s) from Microsoft as well.

When attempting to use the uninstaller's, I am thrown error messages stating that the software isn't installed. Subsequent reinstalls fail in the middle of the install. Version 3.0 and 3.5 fail in the middle of the install as well.

You have other problems if everything is failing. It's possibly time to reinstall with a regular full install of Windows.

Yeah, I was afraid of that... There was just that small grain of hope that would keep me from wasting an afternoon screwing with a Windows install.

Fiddling around the registry can cost you more than just an afternoon, especially when it's something as massive and pervasive as the .NET framework. :p
