XP Updates after SP3 Breaks Windows Updates

So I have tried 2 fresh installs on different machines for SP3. Use a SP2 disc. After installing drivers I update the machine and the first pack is SP3. Instals fine then go back and have a couple other updates + IE7. Install those fine. Reboot and try and install a update for IE7. Downloads but fails. Try and install WMP11. Downloads a fails. Can install the stuff if I download the packs myself but cannot work it in windows updates. Any ideas?

I bet your Windows Update Agent keeps getting broken when you update your computer to SP3

Yep, I did a clean install with SP3 and ran into this problem. The net stop... commands worked for me.

Another one that makes it easy to reset your windows update agent is this little program -
Dial-a-fix (http://wiki.lunarsoft.net/wiki/Dial-a-fix)

I just used Dial-a-fix on a clean install and it worked. I can't believe Windows Update stops working on a clean install after updates following SP3 are installed. I'm not even an M$ basher but this is so lame.
