I bought 4GB of RAM the other day and since i recently sold my HTPC mobo/cpu I put that 2GB in my workstation too.
So i have 6GB of RAM (running dual channel)
I installed XP Pro x64 so i could use all of it with Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects.
I realize they can only see 4GB each, but thats fine.
For some reason, they run really weird. They'll run fine for a while and then everything will start like flickering and not updating fast and just being generally slow and i'll have to shut the program down or just restart my whole computer.
They all ran fine with XP Pro x86 with only 2GB of RAM.
Is there some problem with running CS3 on 64bit windows?

Nope, CS3 runs fine on 2 Vista systems I've set up, and both are x64. I had it running on Windows XP x64 as well before switching to Vista, with no issues. Do you have CS3 updated?

That may be the problem.
I'll try that and see.
It works fine for maybe 30 minutes to 2 hours and then it will start slowing down and ill have to restart.
EDIT: ok i just got an error saying the Virtual Memory was low.
I set it to 8GB before i started, should i do more?

wait.. are you telling PS to use 8GB of memory? that wouldn't leave anything for the OS. I thought the recommended amount for PS was 50% of your memory.

No, i just set the windows virtual memory to 8GB.
But i just realized it didnt save, so that may have been the problem.
My CPU also randomly spikes to like 70 or 80, but stays between 5-15 usually.
PS is only set to like 2.5GB, using 2 of my drives (150 and 100GB free) as scratch disks
AE is set to use all 4GB that it can use with an 8GB disk cache.
I really need to just stop and update to SP2 and update all my adobe stuff, but im really pressed for time.

Sorry to bring this back up, but I figured since it was in the GenHardware forum, it would still be relevant.
I realized that it was my GPU holding me back (XFX 8600GT).
I was running two 22" monitors at 1680x1050, and when i unplugged one monitor, it all ran fine.
So my question now is, would it be better to upgrade the one card, or just buy another 8600GT to run the second monitor since they are so cheap now? (i have two PCIe slots, but just Crossfire, now SLI)
I posted a while back about a workstation card, and I was told getting a 2900XT or 3870 and modding the drivers to be like a FireGL card would be my best bet.
Would either of those cards run both monitors fine while using AE, PS, Illustrator, Premiere, 3dsMax, and Maya? (Not all at once, but definitely at least 1 or 2 at a time)
Or if I got one of those cards, could I still use my 8600GT for the secondary monitor or is there an issue with running an ATI and nVidia card at the same time?
