Hello everyone !
I am going to set up a new system and running Vista Ultimate on it.
I have never worried about partioning on my last systems always going with one hard disk with three partitions.
But with my new system I want to have good speed, with one program in need of fast access, read and write speed with 40+ GB of data and frequent updates (despite all other programs).
So I want to go with two hard disks, the first one for all system data and "serious" applications like Office, Visual Studio and SQL Server Express and the other one for different data like games and digital photos.
That leaves me with two main questions, the first one about the hard disks to choose the second about partitioning.
1. Hard Disks:
I like to run a system hard disks with 250 to 320 GB and the second one with 500 to 640 GB (I do not want to rely on the F1 from Samsung):
1.1.: For the system disk I see two options atm:
a) Seagate Barracuda ES.2 250GB SATA-II 32MB (ST3250310NS)
b) Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB SATA II (WD3200AAKS)
1.2. For the second hard disk I see another two options atm:
a) Seagate Barracuda ES.2 500GB SATA-II 32MB (ST3500320NS)
b) Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB SATA-II (WD6400AAKS)
2. Partitioning:
I want the system disk run as one partition and am thinking about two partitions on the second disk.
a) Is this ok for both disks or are there better solutions?
b) Should i have a smaller partition on the second disks at the beginning to host the 40+ GB program mentioned above (fast access/read/write), e.g. 100 GB ?
Thank You for any help.
