My order just went through on newegg. It'll be a few days before I get it, but i figure i'd post up here, that way if anyone has questions, i'll be prepared to test/answer them.

Im not too concerned about perfect colors and such. Its a gaming monitor. I plan to surf the web and play some games. I do artwork on occasion, but its for vinyl plotting- so colors aren't of maximum importance.

yes, it is a TN panel.... but i sit in the same spot, its just for the desk... so no problems with viewing angles.. for me.

I ended up with this one too. I had a comparision with others LCD's about the same size over at this thread (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1032291335#post1032291335)

I tried out the 2493HM, and it's a good monitor, so I think you will enjoy the 2693HM quite a bit.

It's a sharp looking screen. Just try to stay away from using those OSD buttons as much as possible, or buy a flashlight to see them LOL. Otherwise great display.

Good luck on that and enjoy.

Easy fix for the buttons was metal foil stickers. Cut them in the shape you want and apply.

nice monitor. Now add 5 more around it and you'll be set. :p

bah, how often do you touch your monitor buttons?
i touch mine MAYBE once a year. who the f cares if i need to poke at it 2 or 3 times, lol. i saw this on a different forum....

i may be over simplifying and/or exaggerating the situation but:

op: thoughts on quality of the 26" samsung for $550?
re: OMG, the buttons are so shitty, i sent it back.
me: ...what?

lol.

I saw the same post and thought the reaction to take it back was a little extreme, but to each his own I guess.

The issue of the buttons imo is a moot point (...which can be easily corrected with about 25 cents worth of stickers). Yes it's true... you can't see them at all without the right room lighting (the flashlight thing is not an exaggeration), but I wouldn't hold that as the only reason to take it back. I would be more concerned with the temporal dithering & 16:9 scaling.

I have this monitor and have a really hard time hitting the "source" button when I want to change the VGA or HDMI input, which I do several times a day.
I'm getting the hand of it though.

If it weren't for that little square where the power led lights up, I wouldn't be able to find the power button at all.

bango.

came ups today.

everyone is right, the buttons are dark as hell. oh well.
its perfect. seriously.

im using vga from my macbook right now, its a pain... but it'll do.
0 dead pixels.
its seriously bright. needs some tuning.
for a tn panel, it looks great from most angles you could come up with while still sitting in a chair. FAR better than my macbook which is right below it.

i'll post more info once my gaming rig is done.

at 12 hours of use or so... impressions so far are:
buttons are dark. yeah, we know.
speakers are comical. they make my macbook sound like an 5.1 home theater.
movement/swivel/all that is nice, fluid and works to all reasonable angles.
swivel is cool. this thing is TALL in portrait mode.
blue led is a nice touch.
panel is sexy looking. front and back. that matters to some of us not against a wall.
cool other thing is that the energy star sticker is removable.
comes with tons of cables too.

seriously, i know alot about monitors... i've seen plenty, and used plenty. i am a graphic designer. for <$600, this is the greatest investment i've made. ...aside from my trip to RLD... cough.

I was going to buy this/that monitor , it has a very sharp image and nice contrast but no HDCP support. so I ended buying the Gateway FHD2400 which has a fantastic picture and lots of inputs.

enjoy your new monitor =]

How far from it do you sit ? With 25,5" it should TN up and down angles should already be noticable on monocolor backgrounds.

The 2493/2693HM both have HDCP support over DVI and HDMI, btw.

i sit between 24" and 30" usually. again, i was used to a macbook and a dell 19" lcd... this is better than both. less color distortion at all angles, except from below...

also, used the monitor last night to watch a movie off the computer. dark scenes are better than i expected. also, no backlight bleeding whatsoever.

Read the specs on newegg, THE 2693HM HAS NO HDCP SUPPORT.

Sorry, Newegg doesn't list HDCP for either monitor and I have personally connected a PS3 to the 2493HM via HDMI at 1080p and it worked.

If you doubt it, read my review (BenQ G2400w vs. 2493HM) where I connected a PS3 to it, and show the Tiger Dave image to explain it's 16:9 capabilities.

There is also a customer review on Newegg for the 2693HM that specifically says that they have PS3 connected to the 2693HM through HDMI. It's also listed in the manual that I downloaded off of Samsung.ca.

PS3 does not work through digital connections lacking HDCP. I have tried this on my non-HDCP enabled Dell 2005FPW and it didn't work, and neither did my HD cable box, and both worked on the Samsung 2493HM.

Why would I waste my time? I've proven it works, I have photos, I've used it with equipment that SPECIFICALLY REQUIRES HDCP.

It's also Windows Vista Certified which requires HDCP. Any monitor that is Vista certified requires both HDCP and DDC/CI (and of course money to M$)

Sorry dude, don't know what you are trying to prove here, but I doubt Newegg tests these products and I read as well as anyone.

Check the manual if you doubt me. You can download it from www.samsung.com or www.samsung.ca for the 2693HM and it has HDCP in it.

Here's the link: http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/downloadfile/ContentsFile.aspx?CDSite=ca&CttFileID=1785215&CDCttType=UM&ModelType=C&ModelName=2693HM&VPath=UM/200801/20080130222832437_BN59-00660A-01-Eng.pdf

I usually try my best not to spread wrong information and of course I make mistakes, but I am 100% sure of what I've said.

If you have the HD DVD drive, and can watch movies in 1080p with this configuration, that means it does support HDCP.

Sniviler, sorry to hear that. NewEgg should fix their specs. I usually download the manual of a prospective monitor to scan for the capabilities due to the fact that I have found a number of errors on various web sites. Either way, I think the FHD2400 handles 720p/1080p better than the Samsungs, so I don't think you lost anything by getting that over the 2493HM/2693HM.
