I downloaded SP1 through the direct download link that is shown on the Hardocp homepage.
I installed the software and when the system reboots, it says the "completing updates, do not turn off your computer." Once that is done. It loads my system and a message comes up saying "Install Unsuccessful".
It then provides some weird error message with a bunch of zeros and letters.
Then it points me to this web page:

Why is this happening? Any thoughts?
Thanks!

If you had to reinstall, why not stick with Vista and load SP1 right away....or wait for the release of the SP1 integrated discs that are already available from MSDN and TechNet?
The link finally loaded above. Are you both trying Resoltuion 3?

I've got the same thing. SFC says it found bad files or something but can't fix them. Trying to work around it now but it could take a few hours before anything meaningful gets accomplished.

I had the same error last month when I got it from Technet. I ended up having to run SFC from the Vista Repair menu (booting off of the DVD) to get things back in order, and then uninstalled my AV software (NOD32) before doing the installation. Did that, installed SP1, and then reinstalled NOD32. No issues since.

I'll try this when I get home later.

out of curiosity, did you use vlite to trim your Vista install?

I thought it was a long shot, but it was worth asking.

I'm just saying this to illustrate the "YMMV" sentiment that is implied with all such statements and not because I want to rehash the same old XP vs. Vista debate: I just tried installing XP Pro w/SP2 on one of my Vista machines (Sage was acting goofy, so I thought it might work better in XP). Wiped the system drive, ran through installation without a hitch, installed drivers, started running Windows Update - and promptly kept running into blue screens that just didn't make sense, nor would easily soluble. Went back to Vista, and it was stable as could be. So, in my recent experience, the opposite is true. However, as always, YMMV.

I ran into a similar problem with trying to upgrade Ultimate-64 on my system. I tried all of the suggestions from the web page and nothing really worked. The system scan found some errors it couldn't resolve.
I tried to do a "clean install" with the 64-bit version (which I had done before using online instructions). I followed the instructions again but something was hosing the install near the very end. On top of that, in the 7-8 months since I had installed Vista Ultimate 64, I had also ran into some software that was flakey in the 64-bit environment (e.g. Endnote) I decided to fall back to the 32-bit version.
Due to my "clean install" issues with 64-bit Vista, I decided to do everything by the book. I re-installed XP Pro Sp1 (what I had on disc), limped along with MB drivers from the original CD to where I could download XP SP2 (needed for the Vista upgrade), and got Vista Ultimate 32-bit installed. After getting a round of something like 47 upgrades to the Ultimate 32-bit install, I could then apply Vista SP1 (it failed once before I got all of those upgrades installed).
Now things are rolling smoother than ever in Vista. Some of that may be due to a new install (that always helps), some of it may be due to my software just playing with Vista 32-bit better, and some may be due to SP1. I think Vista Ultimate 64-bit is still a very good environment, it's just that some programs that I need to run were lazily/sloppily developed and don't play well with it. In the end, I'm sacrificing about 512 MB of my 4 GB of memory, but if everything continues to run smoothly then I'm satisfied with that.
