I have ran dual/triple screen for the last 5-7 years at home and I find it very useful. I also find it very wasteful in a way at times now. I am currently running 2x 22" WS LCDs (1680x1050). I mainly keep itunes, pidgin, vista sidebar, and any IM windows on my right monitor while I simply surf on the left.

I never require that much space on the main monitor and I know I can get used to simply minimizing stuff if it doesn't fit on a larger monitor. I'd like to get smething larger and sell both of my 22" locally since they could possibly pay for a larger monitor.

My main concerns are resolution and monitor size.
Resolution: I would want some nice resolution or else it's the same amount of space but larger icons.
Size: Depending on the resolution, I think 26"-28" would be a noticable jump.

What do you guys think going from a larger screen down to a couple of 22"s or so and vice versa? Noticable advantages/disadvantages that really stood out when changing to/from? I get so used to my setup even though I work on 17" CRTs every day, yet I am in awe when someone has a 20" LCD at their home.

The main reason I am considering this is because of space. The extra 22" monitor sits above nothing but unused desk.

Expected: I know I'll keep hitting my hot keys to switch programs on monitors to find out it doesn't work when I want stuff out of the way. I think I will look at 26"-28" and say ..... hmmm its big and has room for stuff if I need to not minimize it but its not efficient for some of the stuff I multitask with on 2 monitors such as photoshop while surfing for design/coding. I know that I will love being able to instantly start a game and not have to disable or enable monitors when I want to go fullscreen on certain things. Less power consumption. Cleaner desk! Not as efficient use of space?

Ideas? I've seen [H]ot Deals post a 28" for $499 so its very tempting depending on feedback to way for a decent deal on a decent screen.
