And it has these stickers that say "Serviceable used part". I'm not quite sure what this means and would like some insight into the possible meanings of this. I have a bad feeling this means that the disk is used and therefore I'm getting a refurbished part and not a new part.

I didn't know HDD manufacturers ever sent you a new disk back if you sent in a broken one.

If you read your warranty, it will say that at their discretion they may use new or repaired parts in your system.

Now, that "Serviceable used part" sticker is a new one to me. Sounds like they pulled a drive out of a system that was returned and prolly just imaged new software on it.

Good luck.

IBM/Lenovo puts that sticker on most parts that have been back to them for service or returned for whatever reason. I see it all the time with their off-lease computers and laptops. It doesn't necessarily mean that hard drive was sent back, but the whole unit may have been, and was parted out and the drive tested and reused for warranty products. No way to tell it's history, just make sure to do a thorough diagnostics test on it.

I called and they say it's refurbished. I'm pissed because
1. Hitachi drive's are notoriously unreliable (as evidenced by me RMAing this) and
2. It has moving parts, they should NEVER refurbish something with moving parts.

I finally got to talk to a manager and I think I convinced him to not only send me a new HDD but of a different make. I explained to him that this 7200RPM 60GB drive was a high end drive in 2004 and if I want a replacement IBM will charge $250 (if I want to buy from them LOL) due to it being based off of old technology, but today a Seagate 7200rpm 60GB drive can be had for $80 and is considered a low end drive so therefore sending me that would be more cost effective. We all know why the 60GB drive of today costs less and I think he did as well which is why I hope he went along with it.

I can only hope. I'm just really irritated because I spent $2500 in 2004 on this laptop which had a 3 year warranty and then I extended 2 more years for $200 yet I was getting a replacement part that I knew was going to fail again AFTER my warranty ended and I'd be more pissed than I started off being.
