in the process of build a new system, want to use my 2 fujitsu 15K ultra320 drives in it, but i want a faster card than the current 160 PCI card i run.

my mobo is a abit IP35 pro with an extra PCI-E x 16 slot, but it says it is only 4x bandwidth, so if i get a 8x bandwidth card, would it work or should i only look for a 4 x bandwidth card ?

or would a 1x slot provide full bandwidth for ultra320, isn't 1x PCI-E limited to only 250MBs ?

as you can tell i am slightly confused here LOL

was looking at this one here from newegg....

Adaptec 29320LPE PCI Express (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816103045)

you should be fine, 1x is 250megs for the serial interface, bidirectionally. where the theoretical max for pci is 127mb/sec parallell.

i'm in the process of implementing ultra 320 tapes on pci-e controllers at work, so i will have some real honest to goodness real world thruput numbers later this week.
