does it work okay? or is it unadvisable? I initially had problem with my ide burner but that has been replaced with a sata burner.
just wondering if I should expect any problems with using an ide HDD drive as a boot drive.
thanks for the help

i've never once had a "good" experence with a jmicron controller.. expect problems. Stick with sata if you can..
however, it might work fine too.
Linux I know has extreme hatred toward that chipset.

It works OK for me. Right now, I have a SATA DVD burner connected to one, and it's never given me any problems. I think the bad reputation came from the jmicron chip being used on motherboards for a long time before the Linux driver made it into the kernel (2.6.19, I believe).
I've never connected an IDE hard drive to one, though, only SATA.
