well as much as i like my raptor-x, its abit to loud for my liking. i have a spare western digital caviar se WD800JD 80GB drive and was contemplating on getting another one. will 2 of them out perform the single raptor-x? this will only be for the operating system only, as everything else is stored on a server.
specs on the 80gb harddrive
model: wd800jd
rpm: 7200
cachi: 8mb
average seek time: 8.9ms

I had the exact same issue with my old 74 GB raptor, so I bought a Hard drive silencer/cooler, and once I installed it in the silencer, it ran almost dead silent. It also lowered the temperature by a few degrees. I don't recall the cooler/silencer brand, but it is german-made, possibly its a Zalman. Have to open my case to ck.
Too bad I don't have another 5.25 " bay slot for another HD cooler, for my new 150 GB raptor. When I get my new case I am definately gonna get another cooler.

I have a pair of the WD800JB in RAID 0 on an old machine. Not the fastest RAID I have ever used. I doubt they beat the raptor. I don't think they are much different from the JD model.
