I upgraded my wife's PC last night and started to install Vista Ultimate x64 on her PC. Specs will follow. I was using the BIOS setting for AHCI, and then tried it again in IDE mode with the same results. Everything seems to progress as normal, except it took a long long time. Vista's install took over an hour, and I wasn't yet to the point of giving a username, and naming the computer.
I did some googling, and found a TechNet thread using the same mobo, with people complaining about a similar issue, and for some a BIOS update fixed it (which I did). For others, removing half the memory worked. Most of them complained of BSoDs, which I didn't get. It just took a long long time to install. For example, after skipping the license key section, it took 5 minutes for the next screen to come up, asking for my version. The extracting files part took an hour alone. Has anyone seen this issue? Tonight I'm going to pull half her memory and try again.
Specs:
Intel E4300
Intel DG965WH
4 GB Crucial ValueSelect DDR2 667
Western Digital WD2500AAJS
